Screenprinting
PEGASUS SCREEN PRINTING DEPARTMENT
Pegasus Products Group has been screen printing wearable merchandise
since 1980. We have two screen printing facilities with equal
production capabilities. Our Stockton and Mountain View, California
facilities have the capacity to produce a total of 10,000 prints per
day, with prints of up to 8 colors per garment location.
THE SCREEN PRINT PROCESS
Artwork.
We will accept an design to be screen printed onto wearable
merchandise in EPS, FAX, or rough drawing format. The design may
be either "spot color" or 4 color process. Our art department can
convert your design into as many as eight colors (spot color), or
possibly 4 color process dependent on design criteria, and the color
of the shirt to be printed upon. Once a design is approved, it is
converted to a film positive or transparency. The customers design
drives the type of emulsion, screen, ink and physical adjustments the
printing department will use to reproduce the design.
Film Positives, and Screen Making.
Our screen making department uses the "positive" to transfer the
image to a screen. After studying the image to be transferred onto
the wearable merchandise, our screen making department will determine
the proper screen to use. Fifty - sixty years ago, many of the
screens were created from a silk like material; therefore the name
silk screening came into common use to name the process. Today the
screens are made of many different types of manufactured fibers. A
photo emulsion is applied to the screen, and the "positive" image is
transferred onto the screen with a light source. The screen image is
washed out using water, and the screen dried. It is now ready for the
screen printer.
Ink Mixing and Screen Printing.
After the design has been approved, our screen printing department
determines the proper ink and colors required to reproduce the
customers design. Our screen printers will closely mix ink to
specific pantone colors as required, or use four color process ink to
reproduce the proper colors on the wearable material. We will print a
sample for the customer as required for approval prior to completing
the screen printing job.
